Kitchen Over £25K Winner

WINNER: JONATHAN PAUL WOODCOCK, ONE WAY KITCHENS

The brief for Merseyside-based designer Jonathan Paul Woodcock was to produce a unique contemporary kitchen which expresses individuality without sacrificing functionality. The client required a family area and wanted the scheme to incorporate a variety of different materials and textures throughout.

Wholesale changes were therefore made to the existing space to create this stunning end result. Dining room and second living space walls were removed to create the larger area. Two large folding window structures were added in order to flood the room with additional natural light and to help to extend the living space into the garden.

Three ‘floating' areas were added by building stud walls to house and raise the level of the appliances, sink section and TV area.

The main island unit was also elevated on three stainless steel pedestals, creating a floating effect in-keeping with the rest of the kitchen.

Full of detailed design elements, the kitchen stood out for its ambition and the composition of its many and varied materials and functional elements. Touches such as the breakfast bar – cantilevered away from the island thanks to the use of a bespoke, hidden steel fabrication – give the kitchen design a confident and highly accomplished feel.

It combines the highest quality modern man-made and natural materials and finishes, including Rational handless gloss lacquer/bookmatched veneer doors, tinted glass mirror, 80mm Corian with drop-down facia with hob controls and Gaggenau appliances.

The judges were particularly impressed with the holistic nature of the design, which involved the total reconfiguration of the existing space to create a kitchen that exceeded the client's expectations and led to a stunning finished project.

Woodcock says: “In its structure, the design has employed innovative visual ideas and modern engineering techniques to create a suspended/floating kitchen and it makes a real statement about individuality.”
