Architectural practice Project Orange was responsible for the architectural and interior design of this new house for a young family in Central London.
The building is oriented with an open aspect towards the park, replacing a previously blank wall with large areas of glazing located to optimise light and outlook whilst safeguarding privacy.
The main living space is reached via a top lit stair from the entrance below and is flooded with light. It is free-flowing and yet employs changes of level and structural elements to delineate zones for sitting, eating, cooking and working. The space wraps around a private first floor level terrace and connects through to a refurbished 18th Century building which forms part of the same house.
In the kitchen, a diverse range of materials have been brought together to create a polished yet comfortable look and feel, pippy oak veneer featuring heavily and offering an eye-catching contrast with the marble and stainless steel used for the worktops.
The central staircase provides a visual and physical connection to the bedroom areas above.
Finishes and fittings are natural, warm and robust, creating an atmosphere of comfortable contemporary family living.
